Arizona Spring Championships – Session 1 roundup

March 4, 2025

Triple Crown Baseball provided another ideal setting for teams to launch their season with Session 1 of the Arizona Spring Championships as 107 teams over six age groups took their best swings from Feb. 27-March 2 in metro Phoenix.

14D1 – Texans (Houston TX)

14uD2 – Seattle Select (Shoreline, WA)

The Texans gave the bracket a shock, moving from the seventh seed of eight teams in the D1 bracket into the championship game, where they pushed through with an 8-7 victory over Saddleback Vigilantes Nati 2025.

“We're incredibly grateful for the opportunity to compete in the tournament. The kids had an absolute blast and really enjoyed the spring training atmosphere,” said John Williamson, head coach of the 14u Texans. “We faced excellent competition throughout the day – the level of talent was impressive, and I wouldn't be surprised to see players from both our team and our opponents competing at the D1 level in the future.

“The championship game really came down to our big first inning where we jumped out to an early lead with JJ Leonard setting the tone. On the mound, we got outstanding performances from Tripp Merren and Matthew Butler, who kept a very good hitting team in check. Their poise in high-pressure situations was remarkable for players their age. This tournament experience was invaluable for our development as we move forward in the season, testing ourselves against top competition from across the country.”

13uD1 – Top Tier United (Litchfield Park, AZ)

13uD2 – San Diego Saints Blue (San Diego, CA)

Top Tier United was a wrecking ball in pool play, winning three games by a total margin of 47-13. Even so, that got them only the No. 3 seed in the bracket, but Top Tier was up to the challenge and prevailed in the final, 8-7 over No. 1 seed Utah Select (Vineyard, UT).

12uD1 – Utah Recruits (Draper, UT)

12uD2 – Mustangs (Scottsdale, AZ)

Utah Recruits were the fourth seed out of pool play into the six-team championship bracket and never left much doubt about the outcome, posting victories of 15-4 and 12-0 to close the deal.

11uD1 – Diamond Kings Black (Chandler, AZ)

11uD2 – Irvine Colts Davis/Lee (Irvine, CA)

Diamond Kings Black proved to be a force of nature, scoring 53 runs in three pool games and wrapping up the D1 title as the No. 1 seed with a 9-1 victory over second-seeded Sonoran Soldiers.

10uD1 – Diamond Kings (Chandler, AZ)

10uD2 -- Saddleback Vigilantes Black (Laguna Niguel, CA)

It was a second title at the event for the Diamond Kings organization, with the 10’s showing grace under pressure with two close wins in the bracket – 6-3 vs. Terra Baseball White (Upland, CA) and 5-3 over Black Sox Elite (Goodyear, AZ).

9uD1 – Assault Special Ops (Corona, CA)

9uD2 – FV Royals (Huntington Beach, CA)

Assault Special Ops marched through the Sunday bracket with three impressive wins to secure the title, wrapping it up at the Arizona Athletic Grounds with an 11-7 win over TBT SoCal (El Cajon, CA).
